Madeleine's mini Bears

The Bears:

Little bears are time consuming but this doesn't matter, the challenge is not to work as fast as possible but as good as I can with a result which has to please me before I show them to other bearlovers.

About the creating:

Their size starts at 2cm they are all entirely handstitched. The 2cm are articulated by stringjoint, the bigger bears are all jointed by cotterpin and discs, the one for the 3cm to 4 cm are done by myself as I never found as little ones in any shop.

The bears comes in little limited editions or are one of a kind.

I use glass eyes . For the mohair bears I needle sculpt the eye emplacement.

The fabric used for miniature bears is originally known as upholstery fabric. It comes in a wide range of colors and textures. I enjoy working with each of them. The one I prefer is very smooth at touch like cachemere.

I also enjoy the work with mohair in a variety of colours.

For the paws I use suede or ultrasuede.

The claws and the snout are embroidered in black or any color suiting the bear.

The filling is done with a multitude of materials including sheep wool, synthetic, kapok, metallique beads . The type of the bear decides of its filling. I also do armatures for some of them to have posable limbs

All of the bearpatterns are designed by me. The ideas come from tales, allday life and children. I always start with a precise idea in my mind I don't draw until it is not ready in my mind. This Idea is turned out in a pattern from which I sew a prototype , that may adjust the initial pattern. The pattern is reproduced on the fabric and carefully cut out.

In 8 to 10 hours a naked bear is sewn the aim is that the seams shows as less as possible...

I love accessoiries as leatherbags, fabric clothes and handknitted pullovers, hats, items done in ovendrying clay. The outfit is realized in 2 to 10 hours. I learned those different techniques years ago when i construct my first miniature house.

Designing different expressions and forms is important to ensure the pleasure of discovering different expressions and poses.

I also sew little friends for the bears.

My bears are smiling they are signed with an M. under the left leg.

Every bear has a certificate around his neck which indicates the name and the number in the edition.
